Perched atop Góra Zamkowa – 17.1.2024

Perched atop Góra Zamkowa in the village of Smoleń within the Silesian Voivodeship, Zamek Pilcza exudes a rich history. The ancient hill it graces suggests early habitation, while its original structure faced the tumultuous clash between Władysław Łokietek and the Czech king Wacław. Otto of Pilcza, in the 16th century, orchestrated the castle’s resurrection from ruin, evolving it from a solitary block with a towering presence to a multifaceted stronghold. Adding two lower segments infused the castle with captivating complexity. Once the opulent abode of the Padniewski family, financial woes led to their departure, leaving the castle forsaken. Ravaged during the Swedish deluge, it found restoration in the 19th century under the care of Roman Hubicki.
